Dholera, Gujarat: Dholera is developing healthcare, education, accommodation and civic facilities alongside its semiconductor manufacturing ambitions, according to a government backgrounder published by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on September 28, 2026.
The report, titled “Beyond the Fab: How Dholera Is Building the Ecosystem Around India’s Semiconductor Ambition,” says a 200-bed hospital is under construction, with completion targeted for December 2026. The facility is expected to be managed by the Government of Gujarat. Emergency standard operating procedures and coordination arrangements are also being developed.
School, accommodation and civic facilities
A school following the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum is being developed in the township. PIB said the building was ready and the project was targeted for completion around October 2026, while discussions with potential private operators were underway at the time of the report.
A dedicated accommodation facility for investors and professionals was targeted for completion by the end of September 2026. The report also said a fire station had been completed and a food court had been completed in July. A Tent City was completed, with vendors awaiting final approvals to begin operations, while a hotel was under construction.
Residential and commercial projects were projected to be completed between mid-2027 and the end of 2027, according to the government backgrounder. These are reported timelines and should not be read as confirmation that every facility is now operational.
Gujarat’s role in semiconductor manufacturing
The PIB backgrounder said six of the 12 semiconductor manufacturing projects approved under Semicon India 1.0 are located in Gujarat. It cited cumulative investment commitments of more than ₹1.64 lakh crore nationally across semiconductor fabrication, compound semiconductors, display technologies and advanced packaging.
The report drew on remarks made by Neha Kumari, Mission Director of the Gujarat State Electronics Mission, during a panel discussion on investment facilitation and ease of doing business at SEMICON India 2026. The broader point is that semiconductor manufacturing requires more than factory infrastructure: healthcare, education, housing, emergency services and commercial facilities can also be important to attracting and retaining a specialised workforce.
What to watch next
The next milestones to monitor are the hospital’s stated December 2026 completion target, the opening status of the school and investor accommodation, and the progress of residential and commercial development. These milestones should be checked against subsequent official updates before being described as completed.
