India concluded the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games in Japan with a record 114 medals, finishing fourth in the final standings. The haul comprised 30 gold, 35 silver and 49 bronze medals, surpassing India’s previous best total of 108 medals at the 2022 Hangzhou edition, as reported by Prasar Bharati’s News On AIR.
Para athletics leads the medal count
Para athletics was India’s biggest contributor, accounting for 65 medals: 22 gold, 19 silver and 24 bronze. Para badminton added 16 medals, including three gold, five silver and eight bronze. India also collected 11 medals in para swimming, seven in para table tennis, six in para archery, five in para shooting, and two each in para judo and para powerlifting.
India finishes fourth in the final standings
China topped the overall medal table with 435 medals, followed by host Japan and Uzbekistan. India’s fourth-place finish marked its best result at the continental para-sport event. The Indian contingent’s performance included strong results across several disciplines rather than a single-sport surge.
What comes next
The Games concluded with the closing ceremony in Nagoya on October 24. The next Asian Para Games are scheduled to be held in Doha in 2030. India’s record total gives its sports bodies a benchmark for future athlete development, coaching and competition planning.
