Published: 3 November 2026 (IST) | Pune: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate Pune Metro Line 3, also known as the Pink Line, and lay the foundation stone for four Phase-II corridors on Tuesday, November 3. The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has announced that the programme will take place at 12:30 p.m. through video conferencing.

The combined value of the projects is around ₹21,800 crore. The programme includes the inauguration of the 23-kilometre Line 3, built at a cost of more than ₹8,300 crore, and the launch of Phase-II works estimated at around ₹13,500 crore.

Pune Metro Pink Line: Route and project details

According to the PMO, Line 3 will connect Maan in the Hinjewadi area to District Court Metro station, linking the Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park with Shivajinagar and the existing metro network. The corridor is intended to improve access to one of Pune’s largest employment hubs and reduce pressure on busy roads.

The government has highlighted two features of the line: it is planned to be operated entirely by women train operators, and around 30% of its electricity requirements are envisaged to be met through solar power.

Which routes are included in Pune Metro Phase II?

The foundation stone programme covers four corridors: Lines 2A, 2B, 4 and 4A. The PMO estimates their combined cost at around ₹13,500 crore.

  • Line 2A: Vanaz to Chandani Chowk.
  • Line 2B: Ramwadi to Vitthalwadi.
  • Line 4: Kharadi to Khadakwasla, spanning around 25.52 km.
  • Line 4A: Nal Stop to Manik Baug, spanning around 6.12 km.

The Phase-II network is expected to improve links between residential areas, commercial districts, IT hubs and interchange points with the existing metro system and intercity bus services.

When will passenger services begin?

The Indian Express reported on October 31 that passenger operations on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Line 3 are scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. on November 4. The report said trains are expected to run every six minutes during peak periods and every 12 minutes at other times. Commuters should check the latest operating notices from the metro authorities before travelling.

What is confirmed: The November 3, 12:30 p.m. virtual programme and the project scope and cost figures are stated in the PMO announcement. The November 4 passenger-service start is a schedule reported by The Indian Express; operational arrangements may be updated by the authorities.
