New Delhi, October 25, 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said coordinated anti-narcotics raids under Operation Trident targeted 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on October 23, resulting in 18 arrests and the uncovering of alleged hawala transactions worth ₹100 crore.

Accounts frozen and assets attached

According to the Home Minister’s public statement, authorities froze 1,424 bank accounts and attached properties valued at ₹17.82 crore. The operation also resulted in the seizure of 500 detonators and ₹12 lakh in cash. The figures are based on details released by the government and reported by multiple news organisations.

Cross-border trafficking allegations

Shah said the suspected network was involved in narcotics trafficking across India, Myanmar and Bangladesh. The operation involved central agencies and police forces in the three northeastern states. Further details about individual suspects and the evidence against them would need to be established through the investigation and legal proceedings.

Why the operation matters

Northeastern India’s proximity to international trafficking routes has made cross-border drug smuggling a longstanding law-enforcement concern. Financial investigations can be important to tracing proceeds and identifying networks beyond individual drug seizures.
