Bhubaneswar, October 28, 2026: Odisha has ordered precautionary closures of schools and Anganwadi centres in several districts as very severe cyclonic storm Arnab approaches the eastern coast. The state’s measures are intended to reduce risk to students and staff during heavy rain and strong winds.
School closures in affected districts
The Times of India reported that schools and Anganwadi centres in Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Ganjam and Puri were ordered to remain closed from October 27. In Khordha, classes from kindergarten to Class 12 were suspended from 1 pm on October 27 and throughout October 28. District orders may differ, so parents should check announcements from their own district administration and school.
OPSC changes Civil Services Mains schedule
The Odisha Public Service Commission revised the dates of two days of the Odisha Civil Services Mains 2025 written examination in view of the cyclone. The Odia Language and English Language papers, earlier scheduled for October 29, have been moved to October 31. The Essay paper, originally scheduled for October 30, has been postponed to November 5. The other examination dates were reported as unchanged: November 2, 4 and 7.
Weather alerts remain in force
The IMD issued red, orange and yellow alerts for parts of Odisha, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in some districts and gusty winds. Students, parents and candidates should rely on official district orders and the OPSC website for any further changes, rather than forwarded messages or unofficial holiday lists.
