New Delhi, November 6, 2026: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully flight-tested the indigenous Pralay quasi-ballistic missile from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast. The test took place at around 11:10 am on November 5 as part of user evaluation trials, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry said data captured by range instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, confirmed that all test objectives were met. The trial was conducted in the presence of senior DRDO officials, representatives from industry and the Defence Forces.
Who developed and produced Pralay?
According to the official release, Research Centre Imarat in Hyderabad developed the missile with other DRDO laboratories. Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), one of the development-cum-production partners, has produced the system.
The Indian Express separately reported that DRDO facilities in Pune also contributed to the design and development of the tactical weapons system. The missile is an indigenously developed solid-propellant quasi-ballistic system using modern guidance and navigation technologies.
What does the successful trial mean?
The November 5 flight test formed part of user evaluation trials. The Ministry of Defence said the successful test makes the system’s induction into the armed forces imminent. However, the release did not provide a specific induction date, operational deployment timeline or detailed performance figures. Those details should not be assumed until formally announced.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Defence Forces and industry partners following the trial. The Ministry said the test supports India’s effort to strengthen indigenous defence technology and military preparedness.
Confirmed: the November 5 flight test took place and the Ministry reported that all objectives were met. Not announced in the release: a specific date for induction or operational deployment.
