New Delhi, October 30, 2026: The All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) and the Ministry of Ayush have launched a national artificial-intelligence challenge focused on Ayurveda in collaboration with Techfest, IIT Bombay. Called AyushTech Innovate: National Open Ayurveda AI Challenge, the initiative was announced at the sixth Foundation Day of AIIA-iCAINE, the institute’s public-sector incubation centre.

According to the Press Information Bureau, the challenge will use AyurParam, an open-source Ayurveda large language model developed by IIT Bombay, as a platform for teams to explore AI applications in clinical practice, retrieval of classical texts, research, treatment planning and public-health awareness. The national finale is scheduled to take place at IIT Bombay from December 15 to 18, 2026.

Focus on practical and responsible AI

The organisers say the challenge is intended to encourage AI tools that are trustworthy, transparent, safe and practical. That goal is especially important in health-related applications: an AI prototype should not be treated as proof of clinical effectiveness, and any tool used in patient care would require appropriate validation and oversight.

Incubation and industry links

AIIA-iCAINE also announced two memoranda of understanding and an Intellectual Property Rights facility for Ayurveda innovators. One agreement with the World Ayurveda Foundation is intended to support an “AI in Ay” collaboration platform for research and entrepreneurship. A separate agreement with Reliance Retail’s Pahadi Local will explore formulation advisory and product development for Ayurveda-based skincare products.

The institute said its incubator has supported 52 problem statements, mentored more than 100 startup ideas and provided seed support of ₹3 lakh each to nine startups. The challenge adds a national innovation programme to that incubation work, though the announcement does not by itself establish that any resulting AI system has been clinically validated.
