New Delhi, November 2, 2026: India’s factory growth slowed in October, while export orders improved, according to the latest purchasing managers’ survey highlighted in Monday’s economic coverage.

The survey provides an early indication of manufacturing conditions by tracking factors such as output, new orders, employment, supplier delivery times and input costs. A slower pace of expansion does not necessarily mean that factory activity has contracted.

Export orders provide a positive signal

The reported improvement in export orders suggests that overseas demand remained an important support for manufacturers even as the pace of overall factory growth eased.

Why the PMI is watched

Purchasing managers’ indices are closely monitored because they are released ahead of many official economic statistics. Businesses and investors use them to assess demand, production plans and cost pressures.

The precise index reading and component-level details should be checked against the full survey release before drawing conclusions about the scale of the slowdown.
