October 23, 2026. Indian stock markets extended their decline for a third consecutive session on Thursday, October 22, as higher crude oil prices and uncertainty around the Middle East conflict added to investor concerns about inflation. The Sensex fell 460.30 points, or 0.62%, to 73,249.39, while the Nifty 50 declined 123.70 points, or 0.54%, to 22,687.65, Reuters reported.
Reuters said 13 of 16 major sectors ended lower, with information technology, energy and fast-moving consumer goods among the weaker groups. Mid-cap and small-cap shares also declined.
Why oil matters for India
Crude prices moved above $110 a barrel amid fears of supply disruption in the Middle East. For India, a major crude importer, a sustained rise can increase the import bill, raise costs for businesses and put pressure on inflation. Investors will continue watching oil prices, geopolitical developments, quarterly earnings and investment flows.
The daily market moves do not by themselves establish a longer-term trend. The featured image is a file photograph of the NSE building in Mumbai, not a picture of trading on October 22.
