Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged energy security and critical minerals as key future priorities in his Independence Day address. He said rising demand from semiconductor chips, artificial intelligence and data centres makes energy security crucial for the country’s growth trajectory.
Modi also noted that India is working to secure critical mineral supply chains, which are essential for batteries, electronics, renewable energy equipment and defence applications. The focus on energy and minerals aligns with the green and blue economy pillar of the Sapta Dhara framework and reflects concerns about supply-chain vulnerabilities exposed by geopolitical tensions.
