A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Indonesia’s Flores region early Saturday, killing at least 5 people and damaging buildings and homes. The quake triggered a tsunami warning for several provinces.
The US Geological Survey said the quake hit at a depth of 10 km, with its epicentre 68 km north-northwest of the city of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara province. Several aftershocks followed the initial quake. Indonesia’s authorities issued tsunami warnings for parts of East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi and Southeast Sulawesi, urging residents to stay away from beaches and move to higher ground.
